The movie, The Cove, wins an Oscar for Best Documentary!!! This brings worldwide attention to the people in Japan and other nations who are harming dolphins and whales.
I was surprised to see Ric O’Barry hold up the sign, text dolphin 44144, during Louie Psihoyos acceptance speech for best documentary. This prevented Louie from giving his speech as the network cut off coverage when the sign came up. Their message was already getting out and I believe Louie’s acceptance speech and the audience applause may have been more impactful.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I had doubts that Ric O’Barry’s confrontational approach towards the Japanese fisherman would get them to change their ways, but rather would harden their hearts. It seems that this is the case as the response today from these fisherman that kill dolphins is even more emphatically…you can’t tell me what to do.
A way you can help the dolphin’s and whale’s is to come on the June retreat and experience for yourself what it is like to be in their presence. Then you will be empowered to share with other people how you were touched by their precious presence. And together we can come up with an approach to ending human’s harming dolphins and whales that softens rather than hardens the human heart. Maybe it is to sing love songs to the perpetrator’s, or to let them see our suffering, or show how the dolphins helped us heal our own wounds. What a marvelous adventure!!
Let’s sing together with the dolphins.
In Peace,
Scott
