Delphi, a town in Greece, was the site of the Delphic oracle and the major site for the worship of the God Apollo. Delphi comes from the Greek word Delphys, which means womb, and indicates archaic veneration to Gaia, Mother Earth Goddess. Apollo first came to Delphi as a dolphin carrying Greek priests on his back and became a male God when he stepped onto the land.
