Dolphin Family

I have swam with the wild spinner dolphins in Hawaii over 50 times in the past fifteen years - spending 2-3 hours with them each time. I observed that they have strong social relationships just like humans. The babies swim alongside  their mothers and the mothers are very affectionate towards their babies. The adolescents play with each other. The dolphins continually touch one another with their bodies and stroke each other with their pectoral fins.

One reason why I am so upset about the japanese fisherman slaughter of dolphins is that they do not understand that the dolphins have a complex social structure, which indicates to me that the dolphins are highly evolved. So when the Japanese fishermen kill and take dolphins from their pod they are affecting the whole family dynamics.
