Dolphin Smile

I spent part of today at the Earth Charter Initiative Summit. The earth charter is a declaration of fundamental principles for building a just, sustainable, and peaceful global society in the 21st century that was completed in March 2000 and launched at a special ceremony at the Peace Palace in the Hague, Netherlands. It was great to be with like minded souls that are seeking to inspire a sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility for the well being of our human family and the living world. I mention this event because as I talked with various people about my dolphin experiences, trips, and upcoming book signing the dolphin presence of joy, peace, and love was evoked as they also shared with me their personal stories about past interactions with dolphins or interest in going on a future trip. One woman had spent time at the Honolulu Dolphin Center assisting Lou Herman in his studies of dolphin intelligence, language and communication. Another man had recently returned from Kauai where he and his wife observed the wild spinners along the Napali coast. I also met a young couple with their 3 month old son, Gabriel. The way they lovingly cared for their son reminded me of how the dolphins take care of and nurture their babies. So the dolphins seem to bring people together that have a connection to them for the mutual beneficial reasons of increasing human awareness of dolphins and uplifting our human spirit.
