It is common psychological knowledge that if one uses force to try and change another’s behavior pattern it often hardens and reinforces that behavior. Human ego’s don’t like being told what is right or wrong and it seems that the whaler’s don’t like to be told that their killing whales is wrong, as evident by their aggressive and in your face behavior towards Sea Shepherd and other environmental activist.
It seems like this has just hardened their resolve to continue hunting whales. They don’t want to feel wrong, shamed, bad, rejected and not welcome so they cover up these feelings by repressing them and becoming more hardened in their belief.
So, when the whalers won’t listen to reason, are confronted for their cruel behavior, told that whales are sentient beings and have more to offer humans than their meat, and yet still will not stop killing whales what is going to get them to stop? Will showering them with love do it? Showing movies about the whales social & graceful underwater existence? Or will it take Mother Nature’s intervention? Any ideas?
I have an idea that I believe may work and will talk about it in my next post.
